JA Mascareignes partners with MUA to provide Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy and Work Readiness education to the Mauritian Youth.

JA Mascareignes has partnered with MUA. The support from MUA will enable JA Mascareignes to implement the JA Managing Your Money Smartly/Online Financial Talk and JA Mascareignes Bridging the Gap program. In total 250 students will be impacted.

JA Mascareignes Managing Your Money Smartly/JA Mascareignes Online Financial Talk

JA Mascareignes Managing Your Money Smartly/JA Mascareignes Online Financial Talk is a two session of two hours interactive talk (Presentation and Q&A sessions) on economic and financial literacy, implemented by JA Mascareignes staff.

The talk is divided into five sections:

DAY ONE:

  • Money Management:
    • What is Money?
    • How to use money?
    • Saving Money
      • How much Money should I save?
      • Ways of saving Money?
    • Spending Money
      • Prioritising expenditures
      • SMART Consumer
      • Personal Budget Development.

DAY TWO:

  • Credit Management:
    • Different types of Credit
    • When to use Credit Facilities
    • Advantages and disadvantages of using credit.
    • Good Debt vs Bad Debt
    • Guarantor
  • Over indebtedness:
    • Meaning of Over-Indebtedness.
    • What to do when in personal financial crisis.
    • Tips for the repayment of debts
  • Risks and Insurances.

This section currently includes:

    • What are risks and Insurances
    • Types of insurances

This will be developed in collaboration with the MUA team. Their staff will also be present during the implementation of this section to share their experience and knowledge about insurances.

  • Wealth Building: based on the book, “The Richest Man in Babylon”:
    • 10 Lessons for Wealth Building

The JA Mascareignes Online Financial Talk is the online version of the JA Mascareignes Managing Your Money Smartly program. It is implemented on ZOOM and makes use of online video and quizzes on KAHOOT.

 

JA Mascareignes Bridging the Gap Program

JA Mascareignes Bridging the Gap Program, is a 24 week program that prepares 20 young people aged between 16 and 25 years old. The program is a mix of the three pillars of JA Mascareignes namely; Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy and Work Readiness. The aim is to prepare them to either get a job or to start a business, while equipping them with the Financial Literacy tools that will enable them to manage their finances. The program targets school leavers who want to start a business or enter the job market.

The program is divided into the following 24 weeks:

Week 3:  21st Century Skills (Learning Skills): Critical Thinking & Creativity

Week 4: 21st Century Skills (Learning Skills): Communication and Collaboration

JA Mini Company Final 2021

The JA Mini Company Final 2021 was held on the 3rd December 2021. This was the first online version of the JA Mini Company and was broadcasted live on the JA Mascareignes Facebook Page.

The 4 finalists had to pitch their business idea and go through a Question and Answers session with the judges. The jury was made of Mr. Aroun POLIGADU,  Dr. Avinash RAMTOHUL and Ms. Tej SOODAYE.
