DisinWel of Loreto College Rose Hill wins the JA Mini Company 2019

The JA Mini Company Final 2019, the last stage of the JA Mini Company Local Competition, was held on Saturday 31^st August 2019 at Le Domaine des Aubineaux. The theme for the 8^th Edition was “Activate Disruptor” and the participating teams had to come up with a product idea that had the potential to disrupt a market by improving people’s lives. DisinWel of Loreto College Rose Hill came out as the winners of the JA Mini Company Competition 2019.

The JA Mini Company Program, is a hands-on program where students of Grade 12, aged 15 to 19, learn about entrepreneurship by starting and running a business. They raise the capital needed for their project, through the sales of shares, and they make a product/service which they then market and sell to the general public. The 2019 edition was launched in March and saw the participation of 33 teams from 22 secondary schools.

The Final saw 6 teams from 6 different colleges, who had made it past the preliminary stage, compete; Cuisineex_Ltd (Dr Maurice Cure SC), DisinWel (Loreto College Rose Hill), Hestia Thermoelectric Co. Ltd (Queen Elizabeth College), Momoris.org (imperial College), Parasolis Company Ltd (France Boyer de la Giroday SSS), Wise Shelter (Lady Sushil Ramgoolam SSS). They each made a 5mins PowerPoint Presentation in front of a jury, followed by 5mins of questions and answers. The team which was best able to demonstrate that it had a project which had the potential to be a disruptor, while at the same time running a sound company, won the local competition.

DisinWel will now be representing Mauritius at the JA Africa Regional Company of the Year Competition, in Accra, Ghana, from the 3^rd to the 6^th of December. Their product is a Towel Disinfector which enhances the process of drying and disinfection through the use of Ultra Violet light.

JA Mascareignes is dedicated to work for the youth so as to provide them with the appropriate tools which will help them face the obstacles and challenges that they will encounter in the workplace, sensitize them to better understand their social and economic environments and to develop their entrepreneurship skills.
