JA Mascareignes Meet a CEO Program

 

The “Meet a CEO program” is a Junior Achievement Mascareignes initiative where a small group of Grade 12 students meet and interact with the CEO of a company for a minimum of 30 minutes. It is an opportunity for youngsters to meet with a CEO, to learn about what it takes to be at the head of a company and to get an insight of the World of Work.

Junior Achievement Mascareignes ran the JA Meet the CEO Program in the context of the celebration of the International Youth Day, which will be held on the 12th August 2019. Two Sessions whereby on the 8th of August, 4 students met with Mr. Mathieu Mandeng, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Mauritius. The key to being a CEO was explained to our young participants and he then took the students on tour around the bank and introduced them to the different departments. The major take away of Day 1 was how as a CEO he inspired our youngsters: «My role as a CEO is to create the environment that ensures that each individual in this bank is able to experience the best version of himself/herself”

On the 9th of August, 8 students met with the CEO of Rogers Capital, Mr Kabir Ruhee. As the young participants eagerly asked a lot of questions, he patiently explained his journey to being a CEO and advised our young students to work hard and diligently no matter what the job is: “Do what you are passionate about and become the best version of yourselves, the thing to do is to never have regrets so that you leave the past in the past.”

For, Motasim Mauthoor, student of Grade 12 science side, “Today we got the opportunity to meet the CEO of a company. He has really inspired us and helped us to make the right choices in our future career. I have learnt a lot about the World of Work. For us, the CEO of a company was a great figure that we admired, but we were able to learn about his day to day and what it really meant to be in his shoes.

For Bhavinee Bucktowar, student of Grade 12 Business side, “It was very interesting to meet a CEO. What I have learnt from him, is that it is not just about taking big decisions for the company, but most importantly about motivating the people who work in the organisation to make the most of their career.
