JA Notre Quartier at the Society for the Welfare of the Deaf
Junior Achievement Mascareignes implemented the JA Notre Quartier program, a contextualised version of JA our Community, with the beneficiaries of The Society for the Welfare of the Deaf” during the month of August. The program was implemented by JA staff with the help of interpreters over three days.
Using visual aids and real-life experiences, the students learnt about their economic and social environment. They enjoyed each sessions and communication was not an issue. The hands-on activities in the program facilitated the implementation and was conducive to a lot of interaction and discussion among the beneficiaries.
After having completed session two, an educational tour was organised by the school to help the students identify the different services and facilities present in their community. The students visited the community health centre and the Post Office. They also went to a bank where they learnt about the different services available there. When they were back in class for Session 3, they were able to relate what they were covering in the program with what they had seen during the outing.
During the evaluation session, one of the students explained how the program helped him to be more confident as he is now more conscious of the different facilities present in his community and how he can make use of them.
